Philosophy I teach the individual, because each person learns differently. I have taught hundreds of students, both in the USA and in Taiwan, and am truly passionate about passing on the system of Eight Step Mantis to others. The Eight Step Preying Mantis System has been passed down from generation to generation - master to disciple, for over 350 years. Consisting of the famous fighting techniques as well as the healing arts. It is one of the last pure and authentic Chinese martial arts existing today. The system starts from the ground up, first focusing on the foundation techniques that will allow you to properly learn and excel in kung fu. If you already have martial arts experience, you will find an enormous wealth of knowledge and techniques within. The advanced techniques mimic the preying mantis' ability to draw in its opponent and strike with devastating power. Add to that efficient and deceptive footwork, joint locks, throwing techniques, and internal energy work and you have a complete system of martial arts. I also teach Shyun Style Tai Chi, which greatly improves overall health and well being, and has shown to increase focus and relaxation.

ExperienceNic Baker learned kung fu at the San Francisco school of Eight Step Mantis under the tutelage of Sifus Alan Nakamoto, Eduardo Navarro, and Daniel Miller. In 2007, after many hard years of training, he was certified by the American Chinese Martial Arts Federation as an instructor, and awarded the title of "sifu." Since then, Sifu Nic has taught across the San Francisco Bay Area and in Taos, NM, been an owner and operator of Mission Kung Fu in San Francisco, and, after being invited, taught and trained many students in Taiwan. Now Sifu Nic is the student of Grandmaster James Shyun, who is the founder of the American Chinese Martial Arts Federation and sole inheritor of the Eight Step Preying Mantis System. Other areas of training have been in the San Francisco Police Academy, and in assisting San Francisco Police Officers in Defense Tactics training.
